Founded in Birmingham, Alabama, the Neo Jazz School of Music began by providing education
and training in music and arts to local children. The school was designed to provide programs
and services to communities without access to arts education, thereby providing solutions to
the decrease of arts programs in public schools.

Since relocating to New Orleans in 2012, the Neo Jazz School continues to successfully provide a
platform for gifted young musicians to express their talents in a positive environment by creating
artist showcases, tribute concert series, jam sessions, workshops and master classes. These
events are made possible by activating partnerships and collaborations with other grassroots
organizations with similar missions. We continue to expand our network by forging relationships
with community partners and area schools to provide private and group music lessons, ensemble
training, music and jazz theory, cultural history, ethics trainings, and professional development
to children and adults across the globe.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I always wanted to make music. It was in my blood. I had singing training in high school, even played the violin in middle school and in college started picking up jazz voice lessons but never majored in music. Coming to New Orleans after college I was ready to develop into the musician I wanted to become. I was grateful to learn about the Neo Jazz School of music and the role they play in the community to musically educate, nurture and support young musicians and people who needed lessons like me. At The Neo Jazz School of Music I got acquainted with music theory again. I learned to play the piano. I had private music classes. I had an awesome piano instructor who believed in me and pushed me to be my best. I also got vocal training and had chance to perform on stage. Everyone at the school contributed to my growth in different ways and it’s been a positive and enjoyable experience. I am very thankful for the things I have learned and the wonderful support of people here. – Mayah (Singer, Songwriter, Guitar Player)
